The West Virginia Housing Development Fund would like to recognize Rising Sun Construction as the 2020 Home Builders Association of West Virginia Best of West Virginia Award for Best Energy Efficiency.

The home was custom built for the Baus Family in Morgantown.

The construction crew utilized a number of energy efficient features, including special exterior wall material to prevent temperature loss inside the home, different types of insulation, energy efficient windows and siding, specific window placement to take advantage of natural light and Energy Star-rated appliances.

Rising Sun also planned for the future. The owners have space to add solar panels, which could make the home net zero in energy usage.

The house earned a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index rating of 50. That’s far better than the national average of 61, according to the Residential Energy Services Network.
“We encourage our partners across the housing spectrum to enthusiastically embrace energy efficient building practices,” said Erica Boggess, the Fund’s Executive Director. “We congratulate the team at Rising Sun on their achievement.”

The West Virginia Homebuilders Association and the Fund will be teaming up again next year to honor a builder dedicated to energy efficiency. For more information, please contact Patti Shamblin.
